Why build data centres in Alberta?

Gas access, established energy infrastructure, industrial expertise, and a practical development pathway make Alberta a compelling location for compute.
01

Structurally competitive gas

Alberta produces more gas than existing egress can always absorb. Deep resource, constrained takeaway, and extensive midstream infrastructure support competitive AECO pricing and flexible producer arrangements.

Locating generation close to supply can turn an egress constraint into an energy advantage for compute developers and an attractive new market for producers.

02

Stable government and clear policy

Alberta has made compute at scale a stated economic priority. The provincial AI Data Centre Strategy and dedicated concierge support give proponents a coordinated path into government, regulators, municipalities, and consultation offices.

The province competes on speed, clarity, and market fundamentals rather than relying solely on incentives.

03

A workable regulatory path

Alberta permits onsite generation and is building clearer routes for large loads paired with power supply. Projects using onsite generation are already moving through the provincial process.

AUC, AESO, municipal, environmental, water, and consultation requirements still need to be sequenced correctly. That sequencing is part of what we do.

04

Existing energy infrastructure

Alberta already has the gathering and processing networks, generation expertise, industrial land, EPC capability, and skilled workforce required to develop infrastructure with significant energy requirements.

A compute campus here is an extension of a familiar industrial project in a jurisdiction that has built complex energy infrastructure for decades.

Proof in market

Already working at scale.

Operating Bitcoin infrastructure and a growing pipeline of AI and data-centre developments demonstrate the province's fit for projects with large loads. Energy depth, industrial capability, and execution talent continue to attract operators and capital.
